Teaching a model to recognise slugs
For the slug detector to be any use, it first has to learn what a slug looks like.
That means training: I feed the system example images and it works out the pattern itself, instead of me writing rules for shape and colour. Which would be hopeless in a garden bed anyway.
The unglamorous truth is that most of the effort goes into collecting and sorting pictures, not into the clever part.
