As parents, we’ve all been there: the kids have had their fun, and by the end of the day, bikes, toys, strollers, or even sleds are scattered around – sometimes left outside where they’re forgotten overnight. It’s not just stressful to track everything down, but it can also become costly if items get lost or damaged.
The solution? Smart Bluetooth tracking technology! 🎯 With a few clever tools and a simple setup, you can easily monitor whether your essential items are safely stored or accidentally left outside. In this blog post, we’ll explore how this innovative approach can save you time, money, and frustration, making your parenting journey just a little bit smoother. Let’s dive in!

Comparison of beacon technologies for tracking objects
For this project of identifying in which actual room of the house / apartment an object is, the BLE beacon technology is better suited from my point of view.
By the way: If you would like to know how to integrate your Apple AirTags with Home Assistant, I recommend the following video from a fellow smart home creator Flotomation (be aware that the video is in German language):
Comparison of BLE tracking solutions
I think Bermuda BLE generally is the best and most thought-through solution as it allows to reuse existing Home Assistant Bluetooth proxies for object tracking. But for me, ESPresense still seems to be most accurate and reliable, that’s why I decided to go with ESPresense for this project.
How to setup each of the three solutions
See my video above which explains the setup for each of the three solutions ESPHome, ESPresense and Bermuda BLE.
How to attach the BLE beacons to your objects
My video above shows you some options on how to attach the BLE beacons to your objects. I also show the self-designed holder for the BLE beacons – you can download that one from my printables profile:
