Recently I had an exclusive interview with Simon from Simon Says Home Assistant, a renowned smart home YouTuber from Auckland, New Zealand. A Meeting of Smart Home Enthusiasts
When Simon and I connected, it felt like a meeting of kindred spirits. Simon’s YouTube channel, Simon Says Home Assistant, is a treasure trove of smart home tutorials, reviews, and tips, making him a key influencer in the smart home community. Our conversation was a deep dive into the nuances of smart home technology and our shared enthusiasm for innovation.
Projects we talked about
We talked about different projects of mine. First we talked about the slug 🐌 detector I built with machine learning leveraging a Raspberry Pi Zero W connected to a TensorFlow serving server and connected to Home Assistant for triggering automations when a slug has been detected. Second project we talked about was how I used AI on the edge for reading out my analog water meter and using the water rate readings to trigger automations. I think I will create a tutorial about this in the future.
Furthermore we also talked about how I use vibrations sensors and energy monitoring plugs to monitor the consumption of coffee capsules on my coffee maker and automatically adding them to the shopping list and doing the same for my dish washer with consumption of dish washer tabs.
